Repetition and Rhythm in Art

There are numerous concepts that go into the making of an interesting piece of art. Rhythm and Repetition are two of them that I am now going to examine.

Rhythm is a concept that is moderately easy to explain when it pertains to music. It is the beat to which one taps one's foot. However, when it comes to art, rhythm is a little more hard to describe. It is basically what one's eye follows about on a piece. For example, a pattern of colors that the eye traces about on a page, or a series of designs that the eye can't help but wander along, like tracing a spiral all the way around and around to its innermost curl. All in all, rhythm suggests movement.

Repetition is fairly simple and understandable in comparison. Anything that repeats itself throughout a work can be labeled repetition. Whether it's a shape that is repeated, or a color, or an object, or spacing, or anything along those lines, it can be considered repetition, and thus falls under a fairly broad category.
